Media Recs.
I want to be as informed and educated as possible. I watch the news, listen to a ton of podcasts, cruise social media, and read as many books as I can. I also love a great movie or TV show, and don’t get me started on music — dancing is one of my favorite things in life!
I watch 30 minutes of news when I wake up, and then choose from a list of my fave podcasts. Here’s some that I’d recommend:
Also, not a podcast, but a great local livestream: Brother Jeff (on FB)
I host a monthly book club, and although I aspire to read a book every week, sometimes that’s not possible, so AT THE VERY LEAST, I finish twelve per year.
Some of my fave books in the last few years are:
-
I have re-read 'The Stand' (Stephen King) more than any other book and it is the first novel that made me SOB while reading back in the 8th grade.
-
"Homegoing" (Yaa Gyasi) - riveting historical fiction about the Black experience in Africa and America.
-
"Song of Achilles" (Madeline Miller) - one of the best and most tender love stories I've read in a long time
-
"The Book of Longing" (Sue Monk Kidd) - offers a different perspective on Jesus, and the concept of marriage
My most quotable movie is either Aliens or Napoleon Dynamite and the TV show I’ve re-watched the most is Schitt’s Creek. I love me an awards show and go big on the Oscars — and make sure that I see everything that gets nominated.
My favorite album of ALL TIME is U2’s ‘Joshua Tree’, and one of my fave songs to dance crazy to is Billy Idol’s ‘Dancing With Myself’. Geez Louise, am I stuck in the past or what??? I can’t help it, I’m a Gen-X child of the 80s. 😎
